Why data matters…

Data matters because it not only measures progress, it inspires it. Accurate reporting allows us to see where successful activities and actions are helping us to deliver on our ambition and enabling our colleagues to deliver for our customers and communities.

Data is more than numbers, turning data in to information gives us the power to act. Our fundamental objective in collecting, analysing, and using data is to make great decisions. To enable us to do this we must collect the right data and have confidence that the data is correct and that it is understood.

Why do we need to focus on data integrity and develop ‘golden records’ for the property, resident and association journeys?

Adopting the right approach to collecting, recording, storing, reporting and use of data is critical. The right approach to managing data cannot be considered in isolation and the success or fail of good quality data is heavily dependent upon having effective business processes, that consider the end to end journeys for property, customers and colleagues.

Gaining a better understanding of what is needed will also provide an insight into to how we use IT systems more effectively to support us to collect/record data once and use it many times.

It is recognised that the right data skills are needed and this will be provided through training sessions and coaching, so people gain confidence in using data regularly to inform decision making at NCH.

The importance of looking after data and having the right information available at our fingertips allows us to make inform decisions quickly with confidence. As an association continuing to deliver essential services to our customers at a time of unprecedent uncertainty, it necessitated the need to have reliable, timely and visible information available for the executive team and managers to meet customers, communities and colleagues needs.

To understand our performance, it is essential to understand the metrics we use and the data that creates them.

Metrics Catalogue

The metrics catalogue provides information or each metric on:

  • Purpose
  • Ownership
  • Definitions

The metrics catalogue can be used to answer questions about what data is used and how to give the performance data in Insights. For more information contact the metric owner or the Data Team.

Management Data

Underpinning the performance metrics in Insights are a range of data sources and reports which will support operational delivery and analysis. These can be explored on NCH Management Data.
